As a project executive in FCL’s National Cold Storage Practice, Derek partners with our local teams and customers across the country to ensure every cold storage project is built to the highest standards and the industry’s most exacting requirements.
Day-to-day, he’s involved with all facets of these operations from relationship building with prospects, clients, and trade partners, to sales and pre-construction, to combining forces with our regional teams in the management and solutioning of projects that advance our clients’ businesses.
Derek brings to his work 15+ years of construction management experience, most of that time spent working on food processing and cold storage operations. Derek has a long track record of exceeding expectations on ambitious visions, and delivering high-performance structures, on time, on budget with exceptional levels of quality, safety and profitability.
Throughout his career, Derek has worked on multiple food processing projects which always include a cold component. He’s worked on engagements for industry leaders like Pepsi, Kraft Heinz, Costco Meats, Mondelēz and Smucker’s to name a few, as well as lead cold chain developers like Cold Summit Development. He’s also skilled at navigating the complexities of smaller engagements that integrate cold storage onsite within a customer’s processing, logistics and other critical operations.
His breadth of project experience affords him deep knowledge of all aspects of thermal envelopes and different climate control systems, as well as how to navigate the inherent risks and challenges in delivering these projects successfully.

The son of a builder and an entrepreneur at heart, Derek grew up in the industry learning the trades and even forming his own small construction company during college.
When not at work, Derek is often still building. He and his wife have plans to build a new home in Bull Valley Illinois. An avid outdoorsman, Derek loves spending time outside with his family, hunting, and back-country snowmobiling with friends.
