Under Armour

The Goal  Under Armour, a leading athletic gear company with an expanding customer base, looked to add a distribution center in the Baltimore area to enhance its direct-to consumer strategy. The company selected Tradepoint Atlantic, a global logistics center on a 3,100-acre brownfield site that was home to the Bethlehem Steel foundry and offered an unmatched combination of access to deep-water berths, rails and highways.

Innovations

Managing environmental concerns of this full brownfield project to unique materials (slag, rail-line spoils, huge iron and steel spoils, etc.), often unknown legacy infrastructure. 100-ton mining trucks moved and placed over 600,000 tons of aggregate base in three weeks. Six underground utility crews and multiple demolition and earthwork crews met aggressive schedules required to prepare the pads for vertical construction.

276 4 ft. x 8 ft. skylights to illuminate key areas of the facility. During install, safety precautions included perimeter warning lines, and workers outside that area were tied off 100 percent of the time.
